Leadership Development

People often misunderstand leadership. Leadership is not about a position. It's not about a title. According to John Maxwell, at it's core leadership is about influence. All great leaders have the ability to influence. And you don't have to be a well known name to do this. Each of us in our everyday lives have influence on others. It may be positive influence or it may be negative influence. Another word for influence is impact. We all already have impact on others in our lives. It may be family members, coworkers, or others in our lives.
Developing yourself as a leader means working on yourself. The better you are, the better the impact you can have on those around you, be it in a company or work setting, or in your personal life. This growth needs to be intentional. It doesn't happen by itself automatically. if we want to do more, we have to become more.

Being an effective leader requires courage. If fact it's been said that leadership is "courage in action." Courage doesn't mean the absence of fear. it does mean that you develop the capacity to do the hard things, have the hard conversations, build trust with your team or those around you. It means not settling for average. Here's what being average means....

                                     Being Average

Average, is what failures claim to be when their family and friends asked them why they’re not more successful.
Average is the top of the bottom, the best of the worst, the bottom of the top, the worst of the best.
Average means run of the mill, being mediocre, insignificant,
an “also ran,”  a non-entity,
Being average is the lazy person’s cop out. It’s lacking the guts to take a stand in life. It’s living by default.
Being average is to take up space for no purpose, to take the trip through life but never pay the fare, to return no interest for God‘s investment in you.
Being average is to pass one’s life away with time rather than pass one’s time away with life.
It’s to kill time rather than to work it to death.  To be average is to be forgotten. Once you pass from this life, the successful are remembered for their contributions. The failures are remembered for the fact they tried.  But the average, the silent majority, they’re just forgotten.
To be average is to commit the greatest crime one can against oneself, one’s humanity, one’s God.
The saddest epithet is this. Here lies, Mr. or Mrs. average. Here lies their remains of what might have been, except for their believe that they were only average.

This is powerful, isn't it? It may sound a little harsh, but I believe it puts into perspective in a real way. We have one life to live, to be the best we can be. To leave our mark and make our impact. I believe we honor God in an powerful way when we live up to our potential and use the talents and abilities we've been given by him.
I can help you to learn about yourself, your communication style, how to fully use your talents and skills, and how to build or strengthen your team or company. Together, we can take your leadership to a whole new level.
